Number of investor subaccounts increased by 64% since the beginning of the year

The number of subaccounts registered with KCSD’s recordkeeping system has exceeded 367,000 for the first half of 2022. This is 64% more than was recorded as of January 1 of this year. Apart from that, as of July 1, 2022 the number of investors serviced via omnibus accounts by KCSD’s participants was over 26,000.

The share of young retail investors in Kazakhstan keeps on growing. Over the first half of 2022, the share of brokerage account holders aged 18 to 24 has tripled and exceeded 70,000 people.

The next age category of investors aged 25 to 34 has doubled in number and amounted to 110,000 people, which approaches them to the largest share of retail investors — the group of investors aged 35 to 54 (128,000 people).The share of investors aged over 55 has been showing a slight growth year to date making up 47,000 people. The least number of retail investors is the group aged under 18. The share of brokerage accounts opened in the name of minors is still not more than 0.1% of the total number of accounts.

As for the gender breakdown, the number of female investors has increased by 76% in Kazakhstan year to date. For the first half of 2022, the share of retail male investors is 57.5% and that of female investors is 42.5%.

In terms of location, Almaty keeps the lead with 22%. Nur-Sultan (10%) and Turkestan Region (9%) share the second place by the number of subaccount holders. The number of subaccount holders has increased 2.2 times in Turkestan Region, while in Almaty and Nur-Sultan — by 1.5 times year to date.
